Personal Emigration Planner excerpt

Exercise five – Generating Options

Your emigration is not going to happen unless you get started on taking some action towards it. Here we will create the initial list of actions that will formulate into a comprehensive plan of action that will be updated and reviewed over the coming months towards your emigration. Taking each of your conception goals, consider anything and everything you could try to achieve this goal. You are brainstorming to create an abundant list of options to stimulate new and unique ways of achieving your goal. Some might be crazy, ridiculous, or impractical just write them down who knows what might work. Before you start how many options would be a good number for you to have? 5, 10, 20, put this at the top of the page.

  • What could you try?
  • If you were advising a friend what would you tell them?
  • What else could you try, if you didn’t have to explain or be answerable to anyone?
  • What have you tried in the past?
  • If it didn’t matter if it didn’t work what could you do?
  • What is the most ridiculous idea you can think of?
  • Who could help you?
  • What resources do you need? Time, people, money?

How many options did you want to have? Have you got them yet? Keep going, once you get there think of 3 more!! You can do it; this is coaching after all you can always do a little be more than you think!

Exercise six – Committing to Actions for Conception

Now its time to really commit to what you are going to do about it. Considering the list of options you created in the previous step:

  • Choose one of the options. One that will move you forward. Choose the easiest, cheapest, quickest or what you feel most comfortable with. Circle it highlight it.
  • What is the benefit of you doing this one thing? Will it mean you know something new? Will it change your opinion? Will you feel better? There has to be some benefit. Identify and write it down.
  • What will you do? List the actions you must go through to complete the task.
  • When are you going to take these actions? What’s the time scale?
  • Who else should be involved, in this list of actions, what will they do and when will you tell them?
  • Whatever your first step, can you think of any obstacle or barrier that might stop you from doing it?
